Lanterith City of Thrones
The Pit of Barberauth.
This infamous cave has always been known for its affiliation with witches and the like. It was once a powerful center for witches, three in particularly powerful ones. The place was a haven for ones "blessed" with powers and those in need of making pacts with other worldly creatures. Eventually the pits foul creations and denizens became more than just a local tale and refuge for exiles and the like. It began to take newborns away from their families, virgins from their beds, and all manner of herb and root for foul ritual.
As the months passed the Kingdom of Lanter took note when a noble from the Catherleign house went missing and in their places signs of witches doing. A detachment of soldiers led by three Catherleign Knights were sent and to raid the pit. Instead what the found was a nest of miscreants and creatures that resembled large wrinkled women partaking in rituals of flesh and blood, a slaughter ensued and all were butchered save but one knight.
The pit was lit a blaze and the lone Knight returned to Lanterith. When the pit was next investigated the group never returned and it is said the pit still to this day is infested with a foul presence and taint that cannot be purified. There are two rewards still in place for any one able to prove the pit has been cleansed, one by the Catherleign Knights who are offering a small sum of 10,000 gold and another by the High Council who are offering a the noble title along with the 100 acre Chershin Estate to the West of Lanterith.
